I Take Too Long...

Yup, I take too long on everything, don't I?  Including getting a job, it seems.  I'm getting down to the wire here, and I don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep running on fumes.  What's even worse, I'm getting the creative itch and want to draw SO BAD!  I told myself not to start on any non-sewing projects until I get a steady job.  I didn't realize I would be coming back here months later, still unemployed.  I wanted to get revisions on my current Slayers fanfic up too, but I also told myself not to do that until I get a job.  I'm only writing new chapters, and even that has slowed down to a lethal crawl due to being sick for almost a month.  I've been talking about selling my stuff for a while and secretly hoping I'll only end up selling stuff that I honestly don't want anymore, but it looks like I'll have to do more than that.  I did get a request for a sewing job, but the guy who wants me to do it always seems to be too busy to respond whenever I bug him about it on Facebook.

On a happier note, I did get to go to A-Kon 24 last weekend in the nice new hotel they were holding it in.  I had already bought the ticket before I was out of a job and decided not to waste it.  I also GREATLY improved my Filia costume from last year, but sadly, did not get enough personal photos to share with you guys immediately.  I had lots of people take my picture though.  One guy even gave me his DA account name, so I can actually find one of these elusive photos!  I will be posting pictures taken from home (again, when I have some form of employment) with a couple of other improvements I want to make and after I get it washed.  The cape especially got dirty from everyone stepping on it! >.<  And I thought I was going to have that issue with the tail!  If I manage to get a job before September, I might even wear it at A-Fest (held in the hotel were A-Kon used to be).  I probably won't bother with a ticket and hang out in the areas that don't require a badge.  I heard there was going to be a group of Slayers cosplayers, and one of them came up to me in A-Kon and begged me to come.  They needed a Filia!  So excited!

I'm hoping to get a new computer soon after employment as well.  I don't like the stupid monitor my laptop is connect to.  The screen on my laptop went out early this year, and its been tied to my desk ever since.  *sigh*  I never knew the freedom that a laptop offered until I got this one.  Now I'm chained down again.

If anyone has any ideas for employment, or has a sewing commission or an employment offer, LET ME KNOW!  A commission will help me pay for insurance and school loans while I continue to search for a job.  They're thankfully the only two things I have to worry about paying right now as I'm staying with Dad.  I do jobs around the house for him to pay for the 'rent' sort of speak.

As for the type of commissions I'm willing to take, almost anything is free game, from costumes, to accessories, to regular clothing.  I'm about to start learning how to use the serger I got last Christmas, so I'll be able to greatly expand my options.  The few things I won't do is leather (though I do have some projects of my own I hope to do soon so I can learn a few things about leather!), corsets (not without a good pattern anyway), jewelry (unless its something that can be sewn or made out of foam or styrofoam or simply glued together), and very heavy coats (that might kill my sewing machine, but of course, I'm open for negotiation).  I'm not a high quantity sewer, I take my time, but I do pay attention to detail.  If you're a perfectionist like me, I'm sure you'll appreciate it.  However, I've also learned how to let things slide during a time crunch or when something's not working and find a suitable shortcut.  Anyone who has made costumes would understand.  I'll do my very best. ^____^

I also want to add that I can make simple patterns and modify pre-made ones, and I can do patterns for detailed work (my favorite thing to do!).  I don't post these things up on my account because I don't want others stealing my hard work.  If you have a request concerning crochet or cross-stitch, I'll take those as well!  Just make sure you tell me what you want, and I'll do my best whether its a ready made pattern or something unique.  Just keep in mind that these sort of projects take much more time to complete and can cramp my hands if I do it too many hours at a time.

the cons sound so fun! I wish I could go to one *.* sucks that you still haven't found a good job, but maybe you'll end up having your own business with sewing in the near future :)
